26TH JANUARY - REPUBLIC DAY OF INDIA

Today is 26th January, India celebrates its 61st Republic Day.
In the year 1950, on that very special day, the Constitution of India came into effect.
To mark the importance of this occasion, every year a grand parade is held in the capital, New Delhi, from the Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's Palace), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort.
The chief guest of this year’s Republic Day parade was South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak, he witnessed the parade along with President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the country's top political and military brass.

‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ … first time we heard this patriotic song almost 23 years ago. Now ‘Phir Mile Sur’ … a new initiative to make the nation sing a song of secularism together once again, produced by The Times of India Group and Vodafone Essar; launching today.
We’re all on the same plane, tied with same thread, we sing the same tune; no religion, caste, creed or colour is greater than the nation. We have to come forward and join our hands together and spread the friendship everywhere in this world.
Let’s come forward and make a promise to fortify the people of our nation… very soon we will see our nation at top.
HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY
